Unlocking the Future of Data Protection: Rwanda Connect 2024

The Future of Data Protection

In today’s digital era, data has emerged as an invaluable resource, driving innovation, financial growth, and operational efficiency across organizations. However, as the reliance on data grows, so does the need to protect it. This was the central theme at Rwanda Connect, hosted at the Kigali Marriott Hotel by Down To Earth Technologies (DTE), in partnership with Dell Technologies and MITSUMI Distribution.
Themed “Understanding Data Protection as a Cybersecurity Strategy”, the event brought together industry leaders, IT professionals, and decision-makers for an insightful exploration of modern strategies to safeguard and optimize data.

The Urgency of Data Protection and Resilience
“Data is a valuable resource that when utilized and processed effectively can drive financial growth and innovation for organizations. It is important for organizations to ensure that their data is protected and secure,” stated Makena Mbui, DTE.

The need for robust disaster recovery and cybersecurity measures was underscored by Mbeneka Carolyne, PhD, Services Account Manager at Dell Technologies South East Africa, who posed a compelling question: “How well would your organization fare in the face of an emergency?” With recent reports showing that 43% of companies without disaster recovery plans fail after significant data loss, the importance of resilience has never been clearer.
A highlight of the event was an in-depth session by Ashraf Helmy, who introduced the audience to Dell Technologies’ Data Protection and Cyber Recovery Portfolio. He explained how these solutions not only protect data but also enable organizations to recover swiftly after cyber-attacks.

Key innovations showcased included:

• Dell PowerProtect Appliances: Ensuring data availability, integrity, and confidentiality.
• PowerProtect Cyber Recovery: Automating recovery processes and delivering true cyber resilience.

James Karanja, Business Unit Lead for Storage Platforms & Solutions at Dell Technologies South East Africa, emphasized the need for modern, software-defined data centers. He highlighted critical pillars such as scalability, flexibility, efficiency, and automation, which are essential for organizations aiming to thrive in today’s competitive landscape.

The event underscored the necessity of embracing smarter, more efficient data centers and adopting robust cybersecurity strategies. As discussions progressed, attendees explored how innovations in AI, data regulation compliance, and business continuity planning are reshaping the IT landscape.
Rwanda Connect exemplified the power of collaboration and knowledge-sharing. As we look forward to more events like this, DTE, Dell Technologies, and MITSUMI Distribution remain committed to empowering businesses to unlock the full potential of their IT infrastructures while ensuring resilience in an increasingly complex digital world.
